INNOVATING WITH OPENDATA #TRANSPORT July 18-19 two-day hackathon
On July 18 and 19, 2015, Athens Public Transport (OASA Group), the innovation company Crowdpolicy and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub of theTechnopolis of the Municipality of Athens – INNOVATHENS are organizing a two-day hackathon on the topic of implementing applications that utilize open data (Open Data). The action marks the start of the “CROWDHACKATHON | INNOVATING WITH OPENDATA” that will be gradually implemented in sectors of the Economy and Society!
We invite young entrepreneurs, programmers, analysts, designers, transportation experts, architects, communication & customer service executives, business consultants, professionals, students or anyone interested to participate in the hackathon and actively contribute to the development of applications that promote entrepreneurship, improve the quality of life in the city. We also invite public and privatesector entities to actively participate through the provision of open data in areas such as culture, tourism, the environment and public administration.
You can participate as developers to implement applications, mentors to support teams in finding ideas and implementing them, as businesses to participate in consultancy or as public sector executives. 4 types of tickets are available on the relevant participation form
The objectives of the organization are:
- To promote the idea of Open Data
- To arouse interest in young people, programmers, analysts, transportation experts, communication and customer service specialists, students or professionals, etc., so that they can participatoryly create products/services for the benefit of the public
- To lay the foundations for the creation of useful applications based on the combination of data, so that in the next phase they can be developed in a functional form by Athens Public Transport or other public bodies
- To create conditions for youth entrepreneurship, since through the competitive process a new team or company may emerge that will contribute to the future economy of our country
The main participation modules in CROWDHACKATHON | INNOVATING WITH OPENDATA #transport are the following:
1) Applications that utilize data from Public Bodies (opendata), combine it with third-party sources from sectors of the Economy and aim to strengthen the digital economy and entrepreneurship.
2) Useful tools and applications that improve the services provided by Athens Public Transport.
3) Creativity based on open data

Procedure
The current topics of the #transport crowdhackathon and the requirements for participants have been announced on the website. There is a possibility for the next 15 days to be enriched with your participation!
On June 25, the final specifications, data sources (data sets) and the prizes to be awarded will be announced.
On July 18 & 19, the #transport Hackathon will be organized and at the end, the awards ceremony will follow!

UPDATE-2:
The first three teams that will be distinguished for their implementation will be awarded cash prizes of up to 7000 euros. In addition, all three teams will be provided with consulting support services from the Athens University of Economics and Business (Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship) and from the NTUA Research & Entrepreneurship Interconnection Structure worth 10000 euros! as well as three prepaid cards of 200 euros to the teams that will be distinguished in 4th, 5th and 6th place.
