WHAAM – Innovative App for parents with hyperactive children from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki: An innovative mobile phone application that can be used by parents as a tool for monitoring the behaviors of hyperactive children, was created by the Laboratory of Medical Physics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, within the framework of the research project "Web Health Application for ADHD Monitoring – WHAAM) which will be completed in June 2015.
Specifically, the project concerns the development of a web application and an application for mobile devices, such as mobile phones, as a tool for monitoring the behaviors of hyperactive individuals. The tool contributes significantly to the diagnosis and assessment of the course of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) but also to the evaluation of any therapeutic approach. The use of the application requires the cooperation of a network of health professionals, teachers and parents for the monitoring of children with ADHD syndrome.
How the Web Health Application for ADHD Monitoring – WHAAM works
The operation of this application is based on the creation of a network around the child or teenager suffering from ADHD, created by the parent, with the participation of at least one specialist doctor, and with the possibility of teachers and educators. The network aims to monitor the child's behaviors in different contexts, e.g. at home, at school.
This can be done at any time and place, using the mobile application available in the Android and IoS stores. The application supports the ABC methodology where what preceded this behavior and what followed it is recorded. The specialist, evaluating the observation, can propose an intervention plan for the child or adolescent, and the WHAAM application supports interventionthrough the recording of observations.
Finally, the use of the application during interventions, which culminates in the issuance of reports with numerical and statistical data, helps the specialist to evaluate the success or appropriateness of the interventions.
