Starting today, Facebook users can find OpenPGP encryption keys on their profiles so they can receive encrypted email notifications. In a post, Facebook says the new feature is in experimental stages. Once enabled, users will be able to send end-to-end encrypted email notifications from their Facebook profiles to email accounts.
If a user enables encrypted messages, but does not add an OpenPGP key, then FaceΒοοk will encrypt the messages using its own key.
For now, the new feature can only be managed from computers and not mobile devices.
“To help protect the privacy of your email content, starting today we’re gradually rolling out an experimental new feature that lets you add OpenPGP public keys to your profile.
These keys can be used to end-to-end encrypt notifications sent from Facebook to your preferred email address,” the company says.
«You can also choose to share OpenPGP keys from their profile, with or without the ability for encrypted posts.»»
