Navigate offline on Google Maps – For those of us who search for our way every day, most of us find it through the Google Maps application. It has managed to become synonymous with navigation on our Android devices, and of course not only on them. Google's announcement at Google I/O 2015 regarding Maps certainly did not go unnoticed by anyone.
- Offline search capability was announced, as well as the new voice navigation feature.
According to Jen Fitzpatrick, Google's vice president of engineering and product management, Google Maps will soon have offline search capabilities, as well as turn-by-turn voice navigation. This feature will make the application even more interesting for users who are sparingly using the mobile data available through their networks.
- The company's goal is to help users in developing countries
Google has created this feature to help and empower its users living in developing countries. Access to data packages in these countries is not always easy or can be extremely expensive, so Google is offering these new features as an offer to those who use its services.
- Google Maps and Youtube Offline will be available later this year.
The new offline feature for Google Maps will be available later this year, following YouTube Offline support that allows users to keep YouTube videos on their devices for up to 48 hours and is already available in the Philippines, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
- Reduction of data package consumption by up to 80%
Finally, Google notes that it is working feverishly towards reducing data packet consumption by the Chrome Browser, claiming that it can now reduce it by up to 80%.
