Google , wanting to get closer to the home use of its services and help parents spend more time with their children, announced a new service called Designed For Families, which will officially launch in the coming weeks.
The Google Store will be able to recommend to users the best apps and games, which they can enjoy together with their families. These apps and games must follow certain company guidelines and will be placed in a special category, so that members can find content suitable for children.
Google has already announced the standards that applications in the family category must follow and those that need approval must have ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) rating, “Everyone” or “Everyone 10+”.
The approval process will be the same as before, and developers will be able to submit their creations for this category for approval in the usual way. In fact, according to Google, developers of family apps will have the privilege of their creations in this category receiving a fairly high level of traffic.
The company intends to launch the category on the Play Store once it has enough content to offer members, and according to the announcements, it wants to compete with Apple's corresponding family app category, the Kids Section.
These apps will not be permitted to contain many advertisements, but only a single ad placement will be available on each page of the app, provided that it stands out from the other content.
YouTube recently launched a similar section, YouTube Kids, where parents could find content suitable for children. However, it immediately received many complaints that they were promoting too many ads even in this category, something that Google certainly wants to avoid.
