The Tor Project announces the immediate availability for download of the sixth version of the Tor Browser Bundle 4.0 software for Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows OS.
According to the new release notes, Tor Browser 4.0.6 is based on Mozilla Firefox 31.6.0 ESR (Extended Release).
[blockquote right=”pull-right”]“A new version of the browser is now available from the Tor Browser Project. The new browser, 4.0.6, is based on Mozilla Firefox 31.6.0, which features significant security improvements to Firefox,”[/blockquote]
reports Mike Perry.
This is the last version of Tor that will be compatible with and support Mac OS X 32-bit. The announcement of the new version includes some important information for Mac OS X, as this will be the last version of Tor that will work with that OS.
While users running Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) or later will automatically be upgraded to the 64-bit version of the upcoming 4.5 browser, which is scheduled to be released next month, Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.7 users will have to manually install the updates. The transition is expected to be as smooth as possible.
You can download Tor Browser 4.0.6 for Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows directly from Softpedia. The project also announced the release of the fifth Alpha version of the upcoming web browser Bundle 4.5, the next major release of the software, which will include a large number of new features, many bugfixes, and countless improvements.
