Data and Society from the National Documentation Center (EKT)

“Data and Society” is the title of the E’ Lecture Series organized by the National Documentation Center (EKT) within the framework of the Educational Events program “Science Society” of the National Research Foundation (EIE). The series includes three events, which will take place every Tuesday from April 21 to May 5 2015, at 19:00, in the auditorium of the EIE (Vas. Konstantinou 48, Athens). During the events, talks will be given on the role of Data in Science, Entrepreneurship and Creativity.

Speakers from different sectors and with different orientations are coming to start a public dialogue about how the use of data changes our everyday life and our society.

Why does the introduction of big data into the research process open the way for a different type of science? What is the role of data in addressing social challenges? How are data linked to smart specialization and regional development? What does it mean for a startup to make use of open data? What does art say about a society that increasingly depends on digital data and computational networks for its existence?

The SaaS Services, which are addressed to entities that produce or hold approved content of science and culture, are developed within the framework of the Action “Platform for Provision of Deposit, Management and Dissemination Services of Open Data and Digital Content”, which is implemented by the National Documentation Center within the framework of the Operational Programme “Digital Convergence” (ESPA), with co‑financing from Greece and the European Union – European Regional Development Fund.

The program of the Special Educational Events ”Science Society”, for many years, is organized with the aim of disseminating scientific knowledge and information to the scientific community and the general public. It is noted that the EIE covers a wide range of cognitive fields, both humanities as well as natural and technological sciences. The EIE is an interdisciplinary research center, which today consists of three research Institutes, one in the area of Humanities and two in the area of Natural Sciences, and the National Documentation Center (EKT).
