Google: About 1% of Androids have harmful apps

Google 's Android security report shows that devices that install apps only from the Play Store are less at risk.

Despite Android being a favorite target for malware, the percentage of "potentially harmful" apps has dropped by almost half, according to Google.

The report includes information collected by the Play Store , the official Android app store .

Verify Apps verifies whether the apps you want to install on your mobile, from stores other than the Play Store, you can also scan them with SafetyNet , a security check service for developers , as well as SafeBrowsing , which checks for phishing sites and other malicious URLs.

The company discovered that just under 1% of Android devices had “potentially harmful apps(PHA)” in 2014. The percentage drops to 0.15% on devices that install exclusively from the official app store.

One of the "vulnerabilities" identified was " FakeID ", a vulnerability in Android's digital signature verification, which was revealed by Jeff Forristal of Blue Box Security at the " BlackHat " conference last August.

According to its report, the company notes that in 2014 it had blocked an application incident uploaded to its app store, which contained the FakeID vulnerability.

258 apps with this specific vulnerability were detected by Verify Apps.

Many of the FakeID installations have characteristics that associate them with security research, and the famous company has not yet detected every attempt that could be considered malicious.
