The Google Developers Group of Thessaloniki travels to Stockholm for the presentation of the GVR Project

The Google Developers Group of Thessaloniki travels to Stockholm to officially present for the first time a special edition of the GVR Project: Travel & Tourism.

The GVR Project (Greek Virtual Reality Project) is an innovative project carried out by the special #cardboard team of GDG Thessaloniki with the aim of introducing Virtual Reality and its endless possibilities in Greece.

It is based on the Google Cardboard project, a simple device/tool ​​made of cardboard that gives users the opportunity to explore the world of Virtual Reality! “Cardboard, Google of developing affordable virtual reality (VR) tools, that will allow everyone to enjoy virtual reality in a simple, fun and natural way”.

The #cardboard team of Google Developers Thessaloniki is collaborating with North Events and during the Grekland Panorama exhibition in Stockholm, on February 13-15, 2015, in an incredibly designed booth, will surprise visitors to the exhibition by officially presenting for the first time the adaptation of the computer simulation environment (Virtual Reality) to stimulate and promote tourism and destinations in Greece.

GVR Project: the Tourism & Travel edition is an innovative and unique way to simulate the user's physical presence in various Greek destinations, recreating sensory experiences that include: 360 vision and hearing ͒ . The GVR Project for Tourism & Travel is just one of the different areas where Virtual Reality can be used for the ultimate experience and in Stockholm visitors will be amazed and entertained by the possibilities of this technology, especially when they literally "transport" themselves inside the destination.

The GVR Project is open to anyone who would like to join the platform; the #cardboard team sends a team of experts to film the destination and the developers create the app. Users can download the apps for free and enjoy their “virtual” journey to potential destinations they want to visit for their vacation.

It consists of an adjustable “device”, which can be customized according to the customer's needs and requirements, inspired by Google cardboard, and using the latest technology to align images, photos and sounds for the ultimate experience.

It is an innovative way to promote the 360 ​​͒ experience of space and sound, and there are no limits to its use.

During the Grekland Panorama exhibition in Stockholm, the #cardboard team of Google Developers Group Thessaloniki will present a special application for virtual reality with trails, beaches and sights filmed in North Evia, thanks to “enjoyEvia.com”, the local association of tourist accommodations of North Evia, which was one of the original organizations that believed in the use of this technology and supported the project by all means. The user will “travel” along the trails and enjoy sights from Limni, Rovies, Ilia (areas of North Evia) as if they were there, they will hear 3-dimensional sounds and they will feel like they are living these experiences live!

During the GVR Project preview for Tourism & Travel, the #cardboard team will explain and conduct a series of workshops for interested parties, who will have the opportunity to order or purchase the cardboard (the device) needed to experience this technology.

Alongside the main presentation of the GVR Project, the Google Developers Thessaloniki community will launch a global campaign to promote Greek Tourism: the HACK4TOURISM competition series.

HACK4TOURISM is an exciting project: a series of 24-hour code marathons that will be organized around the world by the Google Developers Group of Thessaloniki in collaboration with North Events and local Google Developers, with the aim of promoting Tourism & Travel in Greece. The central idea for the HACK4TOURISM code marathons is to create, build and develop innovative applications by potential visitors, tourists, travelers who know best what they need when visiting a foreign country: Creating an application according to the needs of a visitor, a tourist!

On February 14th and 15th in Stockholm, during the Grekland Panorama exhibition, some of the most talented, smart and creative developers, designers, students and professionals in Europe will gather for a quick brainstorming session on the Design Sprint for Tourism & Travel, accompanied by hacking sessions on Android Wear. For this kick-off event of the project, North Events, Grekland Panorama and GDG Thessaloniki will give away amazing prizes to the 3 best applications
1. A whole week, with paid accommodation, in Greece for the first application
2. A Friday-Weekend, with paid accommodation, in Greece for the second and third place

During the hackathon, participants will have the opportunity to taste traditional, healthy Greek cuisine as opposed to the junk food usually served at hackathons. Furthermore, throughout the marathon, midnight raffles will be held by supporters and sponsors.
