New Year's Day 2015 was the best day ever in app sales, especially for Apple 's AppStore !
Apple announced a new sales record through the App Store for the first week of January.
Its customers spent nearly half a billion dollars online on apps and other content (in-app purchases) during the first seven days of the year, with New Year's Day 2015 being the best day ever for the App Store in terms of sales.
Apple also claimed that developers and app creators, who make their apps available through the App Store, have collectively earned $25 billion to date.
In 2014, the turnover of Apple's online app and content store increased by 50%, reaching $15 billion. Of this, about $10 billion went to creators and $4.5 went to Apple's coffers, when the company's total annual revenue amounted to $183 billion, with the iPhone alone contributing almost 50% of the turnover.
The App Store launched in July 2008, supporting the creation of the iOS device ecosystem. Today, it features nearly 1.4 million application titles for Apple mobile devices and computers.
