British researchers have developed a new technology that allows people with color blindness, that is, the inability to distinguish colors correctly, to watch television better than ever before. The new system, called Eyetec, allows the color-blind viewer to distinguish between red and green.
The researchers of the School of Computer Science at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, led by Professor Graham Finlayson, according to the British "Telegraph", created the company Spectral Edge to commercially promote their product.
Approximately 250 million people worldwide suffer from color blindness, who cannot see images (including on television) with the same clarity as those with normal vision.
Eyetec uses mathematical models and special algorithms to improve the way moving images are rendered on the television receiver and make them clear even for a viewer with achromatopsia.
The new technology can already be integrated into digital receivers and television sets, which is expected to happen. Eyetec, when activated by the user, interpolates and enhances the image frame by frame, before it is displayed on the screen.
The user will be able to activate Eyetec from his TV menu. Those with achromatopsia will see a greater difference in programs with a lot of red and green, such as sports programs, nature documentaries, cooking shows, etc.
