Horizon is a popular app for iOS and Android devices that ensures the user shoots horizontal videos regardless of how they hold their device.
The usefulness of the application is a given, as it allows the user to always shoot videos in a horizontal position, even if they hold their smartphone vertically.
In this way, videos with huge black bars on the left and right are avoided, which remain unused and appear “ugly” on televisions and computer screens.
The application was introduced in early 2014 only for iPhone and has been available for Android.
Horizon is a Greek application, created by two 28-year-old developers from Thessaloniki, Petros Douvantzis and Stelios Petrakis.
Horizon achieves this by using every smartphone's built-in accelerometer and gyroscope to ensure that the video remains in landscape orientation.
Video quality can be set to VGA, 720p or Full HD , and for iPhone users there is the option to send videos to Apple TV via AirPlay.
The application is available on the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for devices with an accelerometer and gyroscope and running Android 4.3 and newer.
The free version displays the app's logo on the video and has a duration limit . These limitations can be removed for a $1 fee.
