The Ice Bucket Challenge, as you know, is a campaign that aims to raise funds for research into amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (motor neuron disease) and for people who have been diagnosed with this disease, but it also seems to have other side effects.
In fact, this campaign used famous athletes, singers, etc. to simulate the sensation of sudden numbness of the spine that patients with the disease feel and which is similar to being doused with ice water. The scene of dousing oneself with ice water eventually became a fashion, without having anything to do with an effort to raise money for research on the disease. Thus, ordinary citizens douse themselves by filming the scene and then uploading it to the internet.
This whole Ice Bucket Challenge-like process may not help those suffering from the disease. But it could help police officers catch criminals. Provided those criminals aren't that smart.
According to The Smoking Gun , late last week, on Friday, a man was arrested after participating in this campaign and then posting a video of himself pouring water and ice on his head online. This is 20-year-old Jesean Morris, from Ohio, USA, who was first arrested in April 2010. At that time, he was found guilty of assault and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime. He was released on conditional bail. However, this man did not comply with the terms of his parole. Simply put, he had more or less disappeared, not bothering to report to the police station regularly, as he was supposed to.
And while he was hiding, the man thought it appropriate to do the Ice Bucket Challenge and videotape the entire experience. Shortly after, he posted the video on Facebook. One of his online "friends" recognized the place he was hiding and notified the authorities.
After the wanted criminal was located, the police decided to pay him a visit at home. The 20-year-old tried to escape by running, but the police eventually caught him. Rumor has it that, before they arrested him, Jesean Morris tried to trick them by giving them a fake name and date of birth.
The 20-year-old is now behind bars in Douglas County, Nebraska, where he will remain for quite some time.
Interestingly, there seem to be some people who disagree with the circumstances under which Jesean Morris was arrested. They argue that the online "friend" should not have informed the police of the whereabouts of the 20-year-old who simply wanted to help those suffering from ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) by doing the Ice Bucket Challenge.
