The idea that Google is moving towards merging Google Voice with Hangouts has been around for a while, but things seem to be taking shape now.
Alex Wiesen, a Google engineer working on Voice and other projects, posted a rather revealing message on his Google+ profile.
"When I travel, I want to call my family from the Google Voice website on my laptop, but without using a phone, it's a little difficult to use. To make things easier, Hangouts has just been added to make calls from the internet," he notes, in a rather exciting development.
Wiesen notes that the feature works even if you don't use Hangouts in Gmail and won't require a Google+ account, so the next time you make a call from Google Voice, you can do it through Hangouts.
This may not be a major upgrade, given that Hangouts is the default option for making phone calls straight from Gmail, but it seems to be a significant step towards integrating Voice into Hangouts.
This has been the case ever since Google decided to integrate SMS into Hangouts, which allows smartphone users to either send a text message, and be charged for it, or use the Internet to communicate with a Google friend.
Of course, the idea that Voice would be added wasn't far-fetched.
