Oliver Bienkowski, in a... unique and inventive protest at the American Embassy in Berlin.
In one of the best-guarded areas of the German city, next to the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate, the artist wanted to convey a special message regarding the American Intelligence Agency, the now-famous NSA , and the mass surveillance that was revealed last year.
In collaboration with Anonymous, an exterior of the building was used as a“canvas” for his work, projecting there (with the help of a projector from a truck) a photo of US President Barack Obama, wearing an upside-down baseball cap and the slogan “NSA in da house”. The police arrived on the scene within five minutes, forcing the projection to stop, but the scene managed to be captured in photos and videos, making the rounds on the Internet.
This is not, however, the first time that Bienkowski and Anonymous have made a similar move, as exactly a year ago they had projected the words "United Stasi of America"on the building, in yet another protest against US government spying.
And while all this is happening, German-US relations , in this regard, have been going through difficult times in the last year, after revelations that even Chancellor Angela Merkel 's mobile phone was monitored by the NSA. A few days ago, the Germans expelled the CIA station chief in Berlin after an employee of the German intelligence agency BND confessed to passing confidential documents to the American secret services, with some MPs even considering the use of... typewriters as a response to American espionage .
