If you are a Windows XP, this new application is definitely a pleasant surprise for you.
It seems that someone decided to create an application to make it easier to configure Windows XP to receive updates until at least 2019.
The so-called XP Update Extender is an application that does exactly what its name suggests: it helps configure Windows XP so that it is marked as Windows XP POSReady 2009 and receives updates after April 2014 and therefore remains secure, even in the event of new vulnerabilities being discovered.
The application description states: "XP Update Extender allows you to download updates for Windows XP until 2019. Therefore, all it does is set a prevention registry key to be a version of XP Embedded called POSReady."
Creating these applications is easy enough for anyone, Microsoft recommends that Windows XP users try to stay away from them to be sure their computers are completely secure. Microsoft says that the POSReady updates are not necessarily suitable for Windows XP, and even if they install successfully, it does not necessarily mean that your system is fully protected.
Remember, however, that Microsoft does not recommend such applications to users, and the company could very easily block them at any time in the future with the help of a Patch Tuesday.
