More than a month has passed since Microsoft officially stopped supporting Windows XP, after 12 years on the market.
However, a hack in the operating system registry can extend the ability to receive updates for another 5 years !
The following trick works for 32bit versions of Windows XP, while for those who have the 64bit version installed, they can see instructions here.
What you have to do is create a text file where you will paste the following text:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady] “Installed”=dword:00000001
Then you will change the extension from *.txt to *.reg and run it by double-clicking on it.
What this particular trick does is fool Microsoft into thinking that the installed operating system is Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 , which is based on Windows XP Service Pack 3 and will continue to receive updates until April 2019.
Finally, all you have to do is open Windows Update, where you will see that several new updates have appeared and will be available for download and installation on your system.
