Apple plans to unveil an upgraded iMac line of computers, with faster processors and lower prices, as soon as next week.
At least that's what the French website MacGeneration claims in a report. The source of the information is said to be the same one that successfully predicted the MacBook Air series refresh, which took place last April.
The upgrade will include faster processors, including the Core i5-4690 at 3.3GHz, Core i5-4690 at 3.5GHz, and Core i7-4790 at 3.6GHz for the 27-inch models, as well as the Core i5-4590S at 3GHz and Core i5-4790S at 3.2GHz for the 21.5-inch models.
The report also claims that prices on the base iMac will also be reduced. It is also expected that Thunderbolt 2 ports will be included in the upgraded iMacs. In fact, it is claimed that the latest upgrade will take place within the week and not on Tuesday as Apple usually does for its other products.
It is worth noting that analysts at KGI Securities had predicted as early as last year that Apple would launch a low-cost iMac, mainly to stimulate growth in markets outside the United States.
At the same time, according to Mac Rumors, Apple is preparing to launch a series of iMacs that will be equipped with a Retina display.
A separation of the company's models may therefore follow, with Retina models being sold at higher prices, while non-Retina models will be available at more affordable prices, helping to better penetrate developing markets.
