Last September, Google announced that Android had reached 1 billion activations and it was only a matter of time before what we are seeing now happened: an app 1 billion installations! The app that “breaks the barrier” is none other than Gmail, an application from Google itself that… you can hardly not have installed on your Android phone (in fact, in the vast majority of cases it comes… pre-installed along with the other popular Google apps).
Facebook may be the most popular app on Android, according to comScore , but the Google Search and Youtube apps are also more… popular than the Gmail app, but the latter has managed to be the first to surpass 1 billion installs. Of course, this doesn't mean 1 billion active users, as some of the downloads come from abandoned or duplicate accounts, but the record has been set, and, a few days after celebrating its 10th anniversary , Gmail has something else to boast about…
