As it appears, United States President Barack Obama is set to propose an end to the controversial collection and storage of telephone data by the US National Security Agency (NSA), which was revealed by Edward Snowden's leaks, according to information from Agence France-Presse and Reuters, which cite a senior US government official as a source.
Moreover, according to the same source, Mr. Obama will propose that telephone data be stored by an independent non-governmental authority, allowing secret services access only in the event of a national security issue.
The new information comes a few days after reports in the New York Times and Washington Post that the NSA will stop “systematically collecting data on Americans,” with the data remaining in the hands of telecommunications providers for the typical period.
In this context, as reported by the NYT, the NSA will only have the right to access data with a new model of court order.
