Google kept the "promise" made by its executive, Sundar Pichai, at the SXSW conference, releasing a software development kit (SDK) for Android Wear: an operating system intended for "smart" watches and other wearable electronic devices.
Motorola plans to release a smartwatch with the software in question, the Moto 360, in the summer of 2014 – at which time, according to a Guardian report, it is expected to be owned by Chinese company Lenovo.
For its part, Samsung is one of the companies collaborating within the framework of Google Wear, but it has its own, competing operating system, Tizen, which was launched in February.
