Autodesk sues Google for trademark infringement

Autodesk , a company known for its suite of 3D design software , is suing Google for trademark infringement of the “ Flow ” trademark. The lawsuit, filed in a California court last week, claims that the name of Google’s AI video generator, Flow, is likely to cause confusion among customers. That’s because Autodesk already has its own movie-making tools , which carry the “Flow” trademark.

In May 2025, Google released its AI app Flow, and Autodesk claims to have asked the tech giant to stop using the name “Flow.” Google reportedly responded by saying it would promote the product as “Google Flow” instead of just “Flow.”

However, Autodesk claims that Google “misrepresented” its intentions regarding its plans to use the “Flow” trademark . The company argues that Google filed a trademark in the Kingdom of Tonga, “where applications are not generally available to the public,” and subsequently filed for registration of the standalone name “Flow” in the U.S.

Autodesk claims that confusion has already arisen between its Flow products and Google's Flow app, claiming that individuals on social media, magazines, and Google Flow users "have incorrectly referred to Google's product as 'Flow Studio'."

Autodesk is asking the court to order the blocking of the Flow trademark (by Google). It is also seeking damages related to the alleged infringement.
