Less than a week after the launch of Project Genie , Roblox is sharing some of its ideas about AI models for worlds. Google recently unveiled Project Genie, a tool powered by an AI model for worlds that allows users to create interactive 3D experiences from prompts. Roblox is exploring how it can use AI models for worlds and prompts to allow creators to create experiences and modify them in real time, a concept it refers to as “real-time daydreaming.”

Tech companies including Google, Meta and xAI have shown growing interest in the potential of AI to help users create interactive experiences. However, many creators are resisting AI tools, with a growing number of video game developers expressing concerns that genetic AI could harm the gaming industry.
Some developers have chosen not to use AI development tools at all, and companies that produce AI tools, including Google, have faced lawsuits for copyright infringement.
In a virtual briefing, Anupam Singh, Roblox’s Senior Vice President of Engineering, demonstrated what daydreaming might look like in real time using a pre-recorded video. The demo featured a Viking-themed world generated by AI that responded in real time to prompts, such as adding a tsunami wave and a ship for the Viking character to board.

Roblox’s real-time daydreaming is still in the “exploratory stage,” according to Karun Chana, senior product manager, and there’s no timeline for when the tools will be available. The experiences created with Project Genie haven’t been very satisfying, and while Roblox’s demo depicted real-time changes (something Project Genie can’t currently achieve), skepticism remains about whether the ability to modify experiences on the fly will significantly improve their enjoyment.
However, Roblox doesn't foresee these AI world modeling tools completely replacing traditional game development. Singh emphasized that creating a game requires creative thinking, and "we don't see a model replacing that creative part."

Today, Roblox is also launching “4D creation” tools that developers can integrate into their games, allowing players to prompt the AI to create objects.
