Framework raises desktop PC prices due to RAM shortage

Just a few weeks after raising the price of its RAM modules, Framework announced that it is also raising the price of its desktop PC in response to the global memory shortage. The Framework desktop PC with 32GB of RAM and an AMD Ryzen AI Max 385 processor now starts at $1,139, up from $1,099.

“We delayed as long as we could, but we had to update our Framework Desktop pricing today to account for the huge increase in LPDDR5x prices from our suppliers,” Framework said in a post on X. “As before, we are only adjusting prices as necessary to cover cost increases.”

As AI companies continue to buy up massive amounts of RAM, device makers across the tech industry are facing a massive memory shortage that analysts predict could last until 2027. Along with Framework, Raspberry Pi has raised the price of its single-board computers, while Dell, HP, Xiaomi, Acer, and Asus have warned of upcoming increases.

The RAM shortage has been a concern for many manufacturers as demand for memory continues to grow. Artificial intelligence companies, which require large amounts of memory to train and run their models, have increased demand to unprecedented levels. This has resulted in suppliers being unable to meet the increased demand, leading to price increases.

Consumers planning to buy new computers or upgrade their existing ones should be prepared for increased prices. Manufacturers are trying to manage the situation as best they can, but component price increases are inevitable.

Framework, known for its easy-to-upgrade and repairable products, tries to keep prices as affordable as possible for consumers. However, the RAM shortage has significantly impacted production costs, forcing the company to revise its prices.
