Opera has announced the expansion of its partnership with Google to integrate the latest Gemini AI models into a large part of its browser lineup.

This extension means that the Gemini-powered panel, which was previously exclusive to Opera Neon, is now available for free in the freely downloadable Opera One and Opera GX browsers.
By interacting with the side panel's AI chatbot, users can get answers relevant to the content of the current webpage and group of webpages, as well as videos. Opera says the answers can include easy research, content summaries, and comparisons between different tabs.
Additionally, Opera AI supports voice input and output, as well as file analysis for many file types, including images and videos.

The company says the engine has been rebuilt for speed, with 20% faster responses thanks to the use of a new architecture that adopts an agentic approach from Opera Neon.
Opera also emphasizes that its privacy features ensure that the user has full control over what content is shared with Opera AI and what remains outside of its awareness.
Many users have criticized the intrusion of artificial intelligence into browsers, but Opera argues that browsing is the next frontier for AI. “Unlike a standalone chat interface, the browser has real-time access to content such as the user’s open tabs, page content, and browsing flows,” the company’s press release states. “This enables more relevant and effective assistance, supporting task completion directly within the browsing experience.”
