Exciting new Switch emulator Eden launches tomorrow

The Nintendo Switch 2 is less than a month away from launch, and despite Nintendo's best efforts, Switch emulation continues to falter. Citron, Sudachi , and other Yuzu have kept the flame alive after Nintendo shut down the original Tropic Haze last year. Tomorrow, an exciting new "player" will finally be released to the public in pre-alpha, and it could quickly become the best way to play Switch games on Android. It's called Eden , and it's another project based on the framework started by the Yuzu emulator team.

However, the team promises that it's not just another Yuzu variant, as it features a new GUI and several new features that have already been implemented in the pre-alpha. A video by YouTuber Alexwpi shows some of these features in action, and the performance is on par with other top Switch emulators, even at this early stage. Breath of the Wild appears to run at 100fps on PC, while games like Mario Kart 8 show improved performance on Android.

This is not surprising, as a large part of the team behind Eden comes from Citron, one of the most active developed branches of Yuzu. However, disagreements behind the scenes led to the split of the team a few months ago. Since then, Citron has turned more towards closing its community, requiring users to prove they have a modified Switch to unlock certain features.

Eden's lead developer, Camille LaVey, explained in a Reddit post why they decided to release the emulator in this early form. While it's not yet as complete as the team would have liked, external pressures forced them to release their work earlier to avoid imitations. Specifically, there have been "fake repositories of the project online, posts trying to discredit its development, and ongoing pressure from some toxic groups."

In his post, LaVey also outlined the strategy behind Eden’s development. The team has already reached out to Sudachi developer Jarrod Norwellabout a possible collaboration. While there hasn’t been any tangible results so far, they feel confident that “he will contribute to Eden in the future, once we move forward with the release.” If the endeavor succeeds, this unified approach will put an end to the trend of “variants scattered across the internet with no clear purpose or continuity.”
