Google Monday announced the release of patches for 26 high-severity vulnerabilities as part of the October 2024 Android security update.

As usual, the internet giant split the update into two parts, to give manufacturers flexibility in addressing issues affecting a wider range of devices.
The first part of the Android update, which is coming to devices as security patch level 2024-10-01, includes fixes for three flaws in the Framework component and four in the System. The flaws, Google notes in advisory , could be exploited to achieve elevation of privilege, denial of service (DoS), or remote code execution.
"The most serious of these issues is a high-security vulnerability in the system component that could lead to remote code execution without requiring additional execution privileges," the advisory states.
The second part of the update, released as security patch level 2024-10-05, resolves 19 vulnerabilities in graphics, connectivity, and display components from Imagination Technologies, MediaTek, and Qualcomm.

All devices running security level 2024-10-05 or later contain fixes for all of these vulnerabilities, as well as for bugs fixed with previous Android security updates.

Google does not report any of these vulnerabilities being actively exploited, but users are advised to update devices as soon as possible, as attackers have been known to exploit Android security flaws for which patches have been released.
The internet giant has not published an advisory detailing this month's security update for Pixel devices, but it did note that no Android Automotive OS and Wear OS security patches were released this month.
However, devices running these platform iterations will be updated to security patch level 2024-10-05, which contains all the fixes detailed in the October 2024 Android Security Bulletin.

Android updates are a critical part of ensuring that devices run smoothly and have the latest security and functionality. Updates often include bug fixes, performance improvements, and new features that enhance the user experience. While many devices receive automatic updates, it's always a good idea to periodically check your device settings for available updates and install them in a timely manner to take advantage of the latest improvements.
