Grezzo studio director Satoshi Terada told Nintendo's "Ask the Developer" that the studio is made up of passionate Zelda fans who grew up playing the original classic games before joining the team on Ocarina of Time 3D, Majora's Mask 3D, and the Link's Awakening remake.
“Everyone has a lot of respect for the series,” Terada said. “A lot of the staff love it and have played the games many times. So when we create a new game from scratch in the series, we always think about how to bring that Legend of Zelda feeling to the game.” Aiming for that feeling, Grezzo’s developers began adding “so many things that we wanted,” resulting in the map ballooning and eventually reaching eight times the size of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma revealed that the game's original scope was "four times larger." Despite the exponential expansion of Hyrule and a hidden area located on the opposite side, Echoes of Wisdom aims to provide a pleasant exploration experience while maintaining a sense of stress-free enjoyment. Aonuma says the game has "a slightly different feel compared to the expansive worlds of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom."

Fortunately, this isn't a situation that's limited to just two opposing options or versions, but there's the potential for more possibilities or a more complex situation. Aonuma recently confirmed that 2D Zelda games will continue to coexist with 3D ones, like Breath of the Wild . However, Nintendo 's developers may not always connect the games smoothly according to the series' complex canon.
