The relative ease of replacing the iPhone 16 battery has earned Apple its highest repairability rating yet. There's a new adhesive that holds the battery in place on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.

By applying an electric current through the adhesive, it loses its tackiness and the iPhone 16 battery can be easily replaced in about a minute and a half. Apple recommends using a standard 9V battery and two alligator clip cables.
The positive red clip goes to the silver tab on the iPhone 16's battery, and the black one goes to the ground screw on the bottom right that holds the speaker in place. In 90 seconds or less, the battery can be easily removed from the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, earning both phones an unprecedented 7/10 from iFixit.

As usual, teardown experts mainly complain about the use of unorthodox screw types that require them to use special tools to disassemble the iPhone. The iPhone 16 Pro series doesn't have such a high repairability rating, as the phones still use adhesive that needs to be stretched to remove the battery, and in the case of the iPhone 16 Pro, the battery is housed in a metal housing for better heat dissipation.
The new iPhone 16 battery replacement process has been likened to an Oreo cookie. "If you dip just the bottom cookie in a little milk and twist the cookie, the filling will always stick to the top cookie," says iFixit, while explaining how easy it is to change an iPhone battery now.
