The unveiling of the INSTER EV was inspired by the Casper, Hyundai's internal combustion vehicle that has been manufactured and sold in South Korea since 2021. Last week, Hyundai unveiled an incoming all-electric version of the Casper as a " new standard for the spread of electric vehicles ."

Given its small size and estimated affordability in the A-class vehicle segment, the Casper EV has excellent potential for success, which is why Hyundai is expanding its availability outside of Korea.

During the Casper EV announcement, Hyundai also shared its plans to offer the mini car in Europe, which has been renamed “ INSTER .” Hyundai Motor Group has now revealed the INSTER EV along with some features and specifications that future consumers in Europe will be able to benefit from .

Hyundai has shared a press release detailing the entry of the new INSTER EV into Europe following the official unveiling of the sub-compact during the Busan International Mobility Expo 2024 earlier this month.

By removing the combustion components in the original Casper vehicle, Hyundai's redesign of the INSTER allowed for an extended body for more interior space. As a result, Hyundai shared that the new BEV has found a sweet spot in the market between traditional A-segment and larger B-segment.

The compact size of the new Hyundai INSTER EV makes it ideal for city driving and parking, two critical factors for driving in Europe. The INSTER is available with a 42 kWh, but customers can also upgrade to a long-range 49 kWh.

All versions feature a single motor that delivers 71.1 kW (~95 hp) in the base model and 84.5 kW (113 hp) in the long-range version. Either version can generate 147 Nm (108 lb-ft) of torque. Hyundai shared that the INSTER EV will offer a projected WLTP range of 300+ km in the standard version and up to 355 km with the larger long-range battery (with 15-inch wheels).

Other features include Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), battery pre-charging, and an optional heat pump. Hyundai has yet to share the exact price of the INSTER EV for Europe, but has previously said it will be priced under €25,000 ($26,750).
