Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has announced its intention to implement a strict anti-account sharing policy for streaming service , following in the footsteps of industry giants such as Netflix Inc. and The Walt Disney Co. The revelation came from JB Perrette, WBD CEO and president of global streaming and gaming, during the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom 2024 in San Francisco, as reported by Ars Technica.

Perrette explained Warner Bros.' position on account sharing and code sharing, viewing it as a "growth opportunity" and confirming its plans to enforce it later in the year.
However, no specific details are provided about the implementation process or whether it will expand to the Discovery+, which is also owned by WBD.

Why is it important?
This action mirrors strategies adopted by other streaming services, including Netflix, Disney+, YouTube and Hulu, which have also implemented measures to limit password sharing. Netflix saw a notable increase in subscribers after implementing similar policies.

Although Warner Bros. Max's relatively short four-year existence, including its integration into HBO Max, may not generate the same subscriber explosion seen on Netflix, Perrette stressed that the ban on account sharing remains a 'significant' financial prospect.
