Apple appears to have designed an Apple Watch Ultra with a dark ceramic back, according to FCC IDs, which were spotted by user @ParrotSWD on X (formerly Twitter).
When launching a new device, tech companies are required to share details about FCC IDs. Apple, for example, shared details of the Apple Watch Ultra ahead of its official launch in September 2022.

In the document, it appears that Apple used an Apple Watch Ultra with a darker, almost black ceramic back case, similar to the Apple Watch. It also used a Action Button without a recess. These features were not incorporated into the final version of the product.
Often, in such archives, exterior photographs and other sensitive details are subject to a confidentiality clause with limited force, so it is possible that this clause has recently expired, as the images have only just been revealed.
Apple is currently offering the Apple Watch Ultra 2, which is set to launch in September 2023, in the same natural titanium color as the first model. Before its release , there were rumors that Apple was considering introducing a new option in a darker color, which was originally tested for the previous model but ultimately scrapped. However, this did not happen.
