Firefox Review Checker: The feature that will check for fake product reviews

Mozilla recently acquired Fakespot , an online service that helps users spot fake reviews , unreliable sellers , and counterfeit products online. Following the acquisition, Mozilla integrated Fakespot’s technology into the Firefox browser . The new Firefox feature will be called “ Review Checker ” and will initially work for products sold on Amazon, BestBuy, and Walmart . The Firefox browser recently began testing this useful feature.

Firefox Review Checker: What is it?

Mozilla Firefox's new Review Checker feature is currently an experimental feature designed to help you make purchasing decisions. Using technology from Fakespot, this tool assesses the authenticity of reviews of various products online. Essentially, it helps you discern whether reviews come from genuine customers or whether they are fake, created by bots or people who are paid to speak positively about products or speak negatively to discredit them.

Review Checker will assign scores to each product review, from A to F. Mozilla says that A and B will be “Trusted Reviews,” C will be a mix of trusted and untrustworthy reviews, and D and F will refer to untrustworthy reviews.

Mozilla is considering releasing Review Checker widely with Firefox version 120 for desktop and Android, which will be released on November 21, 2023.

Fake reviews significantly impact online shopping

Fake reviews undermine consumer trust, influencing purchasing decisions. It is impossible to argue with the fact that consumers expect reviews to reflect real user and not be fake positives to promote a product or fake negatives to discredit.

Also, fake product reviews not only harm consumers, but also the brands themselves. An e-commerce business’s online reputation is essential and a vital key to success. Therefore, working to highlight product quality and build customer trust through genuine reviews can benefit long-term business growth.

So Review Checker, Firefox's new feature, revolutionizes the search for truth in online reviews.

While nothing can completely eliminate the risk of fake reviews, Mozilla's Review Checker paves the way for more meaningful and lasting solutions to address this problem.
