Baldur's Gate 3's next big patch is coming soon, and it looks like it's going to be a big one, with lots of performance improvements and other fixes. Even better, Patch 2 will apparently address Minthara, who has been paralyzed by what director Swen Vincke describes as a "really, really stupid bug."

Speaking to IGN ahead of the release of Patch 2, Vincke talked about how Baldur's Gate 3's scope can cause chain reactions that can sometimes accidentally lock up content. Such is the case with Baldur's Gate 3's assassin drow.
Vincke said that Minthara's lines "worked" in previous versions, but "something else made them not work anymore." That's the challenge of making a complex, interconnected RPG filled with thousands of tiny interactions.
Speaking about the team's overall vision for Minthara, Vincke says she went through "a few iterations." One key distinction is that she's not an origin character, meaning you can't play her from the start. Essentially, she's what Vincke describes as a "sidekick.".
Minthara is there to serve another character, one of the antagonists. She was supposed to bring a different light to this antagonist, but some of her lines don't work and she never had a mission for her origins like some of the other characters in Act Three. There was also a variant of Minthara that was removed because it became too complicated and there wasn't enough room in the game to tell her story. The team leader explains that every companion in the game has gone through multiple versions and that Minthara serves the fantasy of power going to evil.

However, Larian Studios is leaving the door open for more development in the future.
Vincke discusses their plans to fix the issue that's blocking Minthara's content and see how it's received by fans. Then they'll decide if there's anything more they can do with it. The response to the game has been unprecedented and overwhelming, far more than they expected. They're taking it all in and filtering it to see where they can go. Vincke says they built the game for players to enjoy, and if there are things they really don't like, they'll probably do something about it at some point. However, they're still a small team with a small number of people who have worked very hard to make the game.
In addition to restoring access to Minthara's content, Vincke says fans can expect a new epilogue for the beloved Karlach (he cryptically hints that if you see a cigar you'll know you've found the new content) and that this will make "a lot of people happy." It will also include improvements to co-op, as well as "a lot of other things that people have been asking about."
Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 2 is currently in QA testing and is expected to be released this week.
