Apple AirDrop is a powerful tool that can help you quickly and easily share files between devices. With AirDrop, you can easily send photos, videos, and other documents without the need for cables or complicated setup procedures. It's simple, secure, and convenient.
AirDrop uses Bluetooth technology to detect nearby devices and create an ad hoc connection. This means that when you open the AirDrop window on device , it will automatically search for any compatible devices within range. Once it finds one (or more) of them, it will create a direct connection between your device and the recipient's device so files can be transferred back and forth with ease.
Previously, you could always have AirDrop turned on to “Everyone,” which allowed anyone to send you files — even if they weren’t in your contacts. However, Apple has now implemented a change that will only make this feature temporary.
Earlier this year, the change was rolled out in China, but as of iOS 16.2 update , it's now available to everyone. You can still set AirDrop to Everyone, but it will only last for 10 minutes.

The AirDrop update raised concerns that iPhone users in China would have a hard time sharing information about protests. But it could also help millions of iPhone owners avoid receiving annoying AirDrops from pranksters.
Of course, you can always turn off services or set them to Contacts Only. However, if you need to use Everyone, it's crucial to know how to quickly turn it on.
The easiest way to enable it is from the Control Center.
- Swipe down from the top right of the screen, on models with Face ID.
- For models with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
- Press and hold the tile containing the WiFi, Bluetooth, Cellular, or Airplane mode settings.
- Now, tap on AirDrop and select the “Everyone” option for 10 minutes.
- You can also modify AirDrop options by going to Settings > General > AirDrop.
