Cloudflare’s Project Galileo and Project Athenian offer free services to journalists, activists, humanitarian organizations, minority groups, and state and local election agencies. Today, Cloudflare announced that it is enhancing both of offerings with free access to the Cloudflare One Zero Trust security product.
“Zero Trust is vital for journalists, nonprofits, and other vulnerable groups,” said Cloudflare co-founder and CEO Matthew Prince. “Cloudflare is the only security provider that ensures Zero Trust is accessible to those who need it most.”
In today's digital world, security is of utmost importance. As technology continues to evolve, so do the threats that come with it. That's why more and more organizations are starting to implement the Zero Trust security model.
Although this method requires more upfront effort than traditional security measures, its long-term benefits make it a worthwhile investment for many businesses seeking increased protection from cyber threats.
With more people working remotely than ever before, it’s essential that high-risk organizations take steps to ensure the security of their data. This includes validating all connections and enforcing strict controls over who has access to which assets.
10,000 organizations worldwide rely on the Zero Trust platform for their web access management needs. The platform implements the “zero trust” cybersecurity strategy, which consists of ceasing to unconditionally trust connected users and continuously validating digital interactions on protected networks.

By implementing different checkpoints, the platform can confirm that only authorized personnel have access to an organization’s networks and assets. Even if a hacker somehow gains access, they will not be able to act freely because they are not considered trustworthy.
Additionally, Cloudflare's Zero Trust platform offers DNS filtering and HTTP inspection and isolation capabilities, so many phishing and malware threats are discovered and filtered before they can reach users or endpoints.
Additionally, the platform can either replace or assist existing VPN solutions by adding custom controls for approving access privileges, restricting connections and uploads to only specific locations.
The three main points that Cloudflare highlights in its announcement are:
- The product blocks phishing attacks before they reach users' inboxes.
- With the system, you maintain control over who can access your company's assets and applications.
- Stay safe online, even when using public or unsecured WiFi connections.
