Google has launched a home.google.com portal that lets users control their current-generation Nest cameras without having to use an app, as The Verge explains. With this new feature, you can view the live feed of the latest Nest Cam and Nest Doorbell models, zoom in and out, and turn the cameras on or off — but unfortunately, you can’t watch recorded video.

The new feature will be available to both battery-powered and wired Nest Cam models over the next week. This includes the Floodlight, Indoor, Outdoor, and IQ variants, as well as the battery-powered Nest Doorbell and its two wired counterparts (the Nest Hello and the second-generation Doorbell). You can “wake up” all battery-powered devices.
Google already offered a web view for Nest cameras, but that support didn’t carry over to products released in 2021. Google’s Rishi Chandra told customers that web view will be available this year for the company ’s newer Nest camera models . It’s unclear why those models can’t use the old home.nest.com portal, but it likely caused frustration for customers when many competing camera products had web support.

Web viewing makes the latest Nest cameras and doorbells useful for a variety of reasons. You can check on your porch or pets from your work computer, instead of having to constantly check your phone . Google promises to continue adding “more popular camera features” over time.
For those who don't know, Google Nest is a line of "smart" home products that includes thermostats, security cameras, doorbells, and more. All of these devices are connected to each other and can be controlled through the Google Nest app.
