Mark Zuckerberg: The CEO of Facebook now worth $100 billion

Mark Zuckerberg has joined the most exclusive club, that of the richest people in the world, and is worth $100 billion.

The Facebook CEO on Thursday raised his net worth, which has now surpassed $100 billion. Only two other men, Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Microsoft 's Bill Gates , have a greater personal fortune.

Zuckerberg co-founded Facebook from his Harvard in 2004, and his largest asset is still 13% of the company, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires, which tracks the world's richest people.

The 36-year-old is also the chairman and shareholder of Facebook.

Zuckerberg's fortune got its latest boost as Facebook shares rose 6.5 % on Thursday, a day after the launch of Instagram 's TikTok- like Reels feature, which came just as US President Donald Trump threatened to ban TikTok .

TikTok recently took aim at Facebook, with CEO Kevin Mayer accusing Reels of being "yet another copycat product."

"To those who wish to launch competitive products, we say go for it," he wrote in a post last week.

The introduction of Reels also comes a week after Facebook reported strong earnings. Last Thursday, the company said it had reached a new record of 3 billion users across its platforms, including WhatsApp and Instagram.

Facebook's shares have risen almost 30% so far this year, adding $22 billion to Zuckerberg's fortune.

The company also noted that it had benefited as more people around the world stayed home due to the pandemic.

In 2010, the CEO signed the Giving Pledge, an initiative started by Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates to encourage the world's richest people to donate the majority of their wealth to charity.

And in 2015, Zuckerberg took a step further, announcing that he would donate 99% of the revenue from his share.
