A new SEC says that in November, Tesla CEO Elon Muskdonated about $5.7 billion worth of company stock to charity.
According to the filing, Musk donated a total of 5,044,000 Tesla shares between November 19 and 29, 2021.

No further details have been given about the recipient(s) of the donation. Some believe that this donation could have something to do with a conversation that started on Twitter between Elon Musk and David Beasley, head of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP).
In November 2021, WFP director David Beasleytold CNN that just 2% of Elon Musk’s net worth, or about $6 billion, could save the lives of 42 million people in need. Musk made the announcement via Twitter. The billionaire said he would sell Tesla shares “right now” and donate if the WFP could describe “exactly how $6 billion would solve world hunger.”

On November 16, Beasley presented a detailed plan for how the funds would be used to combat the problem. This came just three days before Elon Musk's first major donation.
However, it is not certain that Musk donated Tesla shares there.
Business Insider spoke to a WFP spokesperson, but they did not confirm that Musk donated the shares to the WFP, saying it is the organization's policy to leave disclosure to donors themselves.
Elon Musk also has his own charitable organization called the Musk Foundation, which gives grants to support various causes, including renewable energy research, space exploration, pediatric research, science education, etc.

In November and December 2021, Musk also sold a percentage of his Tesla shares, following a Twitter poll asking if he should sell his shares to pay taxes. He remains the richest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of $227 billion, according to Bloomberg.
