Microsoft has released an urgent updateto address a Windows Server bug that leads to connection and performance issues in Remote Desktop.

The platforms affected include Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2016, and Windows Server 2012 R2.
Updates that address this issue are not available from Windows Update and will not be automatically installed on affected systems.
You can download the standalone update package KB5010196 for Windows Server 2019 using the instructions.
You can also download the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog. Business administrators can manually push this update to Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) using the instructions available in the Microsoft Update Catalog.

KB5010196 is a cumulative update, so you won't need previous Windows Server updates to install it.
Microsoft has not yet released updates for Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2016, and Windows Server 2012 R2, but is working on a fix and will provide a solution in the coming days.
In November, the company released updates to fix authentication issues associated with Kerberos delegation scenarios affecting domain controllers (DCs) running supported versions of Windows Server.
As Microsoft explained, on affected systems, end users could not sign in to services or applications using Single Sign-On (SSO) in on-premises Active Directory or hybrid Azure Active Directory environments.

A week earlier, Microsoft had to issue another set of emergency updates, to address Windows 11 issues when opening or using certain built-in apps and features due to an expired Microsoft digital certificate.
Before that last year, the company also pushed out a series of emergency updates to fix printing issues, WiFi bugs, PDF opening issues, the Windows PrintNightmare zero-day, and another series of printing issues.
