2021 was a very good year for Tesla, in terms of vehicle sales and deliveries, after it revealed that it delivered 936,172 electric vehicles to its customers. About 308,600 of those were delivered in the fourth quarter, breaking its previous record of 305,000 vehicles in a single quarter. The electric vehicle company managed to deliver almost twice as many vehicles to its customers compared to 2020 (499,550 vehicles).

The past year was not a great one for the Model S and Model X.Deliveries of these high-end vehicles fell significantly in 2021 (from 57,039 cars to 24,964). This, however, is not a big surprise as many customers had to wait for the refreshed Tesla S and X that were not scheduled to ship until the spring, (including the Plaid variants).
Tesla, on the other hand, managed to deliver about a million electric vehicles despite a major chip shortage that has plagued the auto industry. This problem resulted in some Tesla vehicles being delivered without USB ports. The company expects to increase its production capacity in the near future, thanks to its new factories in Austin and Berlin. The company also has the Cybertruck scheduled for release in 2022.

However, despite strong sales, Tesla has faced several issues throughout 2021. Some of these were product delays (including the Cybertruck and Semi), gradual price increases, and a series of recalls of problematic vehicles. A few days ago, Tesla was asked to recall about half a million vehicles with camera and trunk defects.
Based on the numbers above, the company is doing very well, but there are several competitors, so things could change at any moment.
