If you're partial to playing Xbox Series X games with Xbox headphones attached, you'll know the pain of plugging in your headphones and finding that external audio - from a TV's speakers, for example - keeps playing until you turn it off separately. Thankfully, Microsoft seems to have finally fixed the annoying problem.

In a post, Microsoft introduced a landing feature with Xbox Insiders – which will hopefully roll out to the wider Xbox gaming audience soon after.
The post states that “A new optimized audio settings experience is now available with new features like ‘Mute speaker sound when headphones are connected.’” Anyone in the Xbox Insider program can find this feature in the Volume & Audio Output menu, under the Audio Testing & Details section.
This is a common error for current-gen Xbox gamers trying to use console-compatible gaming headsets. It's easily fixed, but it requires further input into a process that seems like it should be automatic, and the latest update should do just that.
It's still a feature that PS5 players enjoy , and it's annoying that anyone with an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S has missed out on it for a full year after the consoles' release.

The Insiders program has long been a way for Microsoft to showcase incoming features, giving us a glimpse into what the company wants to test on the Xbox platform.
Before fully launching Dolby Vision gaming on Xbox consoles, it was tested here and offers a great level of transparency for those who want to know if their biggest console issues will be fixed soon.
Microsoft also says it's "investigating reports of the audio mixer being unable to adjust chat/game audio levels," so hopefully there'll be more news soon for anyone affected.
That's not all, though. The latest update for Xbox Insiders includes "testing color blind filters" to help "those with color blindness or color vision impairments explore more current games" - it applies to "games, movies, apps, menus" and the like.

If you're testing this feature or any other in the latest update, any feedback you give Microsoft will help improve the feature before it's more widely available.
