Soros Fund Management, the asset management company founded by the billionaire investor and philanthropist George Soros, disclosed that it holds Bitcoin.

The office holds “some coins… but not many», said Dawn Fitzpatrick, chief investment officer and head of investment staff at Soros Fund Management, in her interview at a Bloomberg event this week.
Soros Fund Management, which is famous for its large profits from investments in traditional currency, did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment when asked how much bitcoin it owns and when it bought it.
Fitzpatrick explained how cryptocurrencies now have a market value of over 2 trillion dollars, with more than 200 million users.
The price of Bitcoin, the world's most popular cryptocurrency, rose by 10% from about $50,000 on Tuesday to over $55,000 on Wednesday.
A week ago the price of Bitcoin was about $43,000, while at the beginning of the year a bitcoin could be purchased for about $29,000.
The latest bitcoin rally comes despite the ongoing threat of regulatory measures from governments worldwide and concerns about its massive environmental footprint.

The fears of American regulatory authorities have eased this week as both Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and SEC Chairman Gary Gensler said they do not plan to impose restrictions on cryptocurrency transactions.
