How to Drag Windows on Mac Trackpad Without Clicking

Window moving using the trackpad of a Mac computer can be a difficult task. You need to click, hold down, and then drag. However, thanks to the well‑known accessibility feature, you can quickly move windows using a three‑finger gesture. Below you will see how you can achieve it.

Once enabled, three-finger drag is pretty easy to use. All you have to do is move the cursor to the toolbar and lightly tap the trackpad with three fingers to “grab” the window. Then, move all three fingers to move the window. Once the window is where you want it, simply lift one finger off the trackpad and the window will be released. Use this method as often as you like.

Usually, you can enable “tap-to-click” on your Mac so you don’t have to click your trackpad all the time. However, this technique doesn’t work when it comes to dragging and repositioning windows.

Three-finger drag is easy to enable, but setting it up takes a little more fiddling. First, click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your Mac screen and select “System Preferences.”

In System Preferences, click on “Accessibility”.

In the sidebar, select “Pointer Control.” Then, in the “Mouse & Trackpad” tab, click the “Trackpad Options” button.

In the small window that appears, click the check mark next to “Enable Dragging” and then click the drop-down menu and select “Three Finger Drag.”

When you are finished, click the “OK” button.

You have now enabled the three‑finger dragging feature. Just move the cursor to the toolbar in any application and then drag with three fingers and the entire window will move.

If you don't like this feature, it's easy to disable it. Just go back to Settings > Accessibility > Pointer Control > Mouse & Trackpad > Trackpad Options and uncheck "Enable dragging."
