OTE Group’s Satellite Communications Center in Thermopylae was selected, through an international competition , by SES, a leading provider of satellite content connectivity solutions, as the Gateway for the O3b mPOWER program. The program aims to provide connectivity services to underserved and underconnected areas around the world. Leveraging its satellite infrastructure and high-level expertise, OTE Group, within the framework of a 10-year contract, will provide SES with integrated satellite-to-ground interconnection services, 24/7 support and satellite infrastructure management.
For the needs of the project, OTE Group created the necessary infrastructure in Thermopylae in record time, despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic. In this infrastructure, SES will place special-purpose satellite antennas and satellite equipment, creating a terrestrial network-gateway that communicates with the array of O3b mPOWER satellites operating in Middle Earth Orbit. Data will be transmitted through the installation (gateway) to and from the satellite, as a result of which it will reach the terminals of telecommunications providers in specific areas of the planet very quickly.
