Yesterday, Microsoft announced the addition of a new “ Kids Mode” to the Microsoft Edge browser. “Kids Mode” offers a number of features to help protect children while they browse the web. It is currently available to Edge Insiders on the Dev and Canary channels. More details about the new feature will be available on the Microsoft Edge Insider homepage
According to the information so far, “Kids Mode” has custom browser themes and child-friendly articles to help them browse safely the internet It also has Bing SafeSearch and allows for strict activity monitoring. Microsoft designed “Kids” Mode in Microsoft Edge specifically for children aged 5-12.
“Kids Mode” can be started via the profile picker in Edge. It doesn’t require a separate account for the child, so it can be easily set up and used, even if you’re on a shared PC. Exiting Kids Mode requires a password. With a password , you can also exclude certain sites from Kids Mode. For example, if your child wants to visit a site that you know is appropriate for children, but has been blocked by Kids Mode, you can allow access to that site.
Of course, parents can choose which sites their children can access . Kids Mode has an “allow list” that parents can use to customize their children’s browsing capabilities. This list allows parents to see other options that they can use as children get older.
Microsoft plans to add more features and functionality to Microsoft Edge's "Kids Mode." It's currently rolling out to Insiders, so changes and additions may be made based on feedback the company.
