A man involved in the attack on the US Capitol last month was recently arrested, thanks to the vigilance of users social media man a users. Apparently, Twitter wearing a jacket with a company name on it in a video that was circulated noticed .
According to the video that authorities saw, the defendant, Troy Faulkner, of Ohio, appeared to be breaking a window. However, the video also shows the jacket he was wearing, which has the name of a company, “Faulkner Painting,” and a phone number printed on it.
The FBI said it was able to confirm that Faulkner was the owner of this business . Agents asked the defendant to admit to his involvement in the Capitol attack
“On the back of his jacket, there is a company name “FAULKNER PAINTING” and the phone number “XXX-XXX6985.” Faulkner owned a business to which he had also given his name, making things even easier for the FBI.
When the defendant gave his date of birth and cell phone number, the agents saw that the number matched the one seen on his jacket in the video taken during the incidents.
Additionally, an FBI agent said they were able to match the business's logo to logos appearing on Faulkner's Facebook.
The FBI also attached a screenshot from social media, where a user had posted an image of Faulkner on Capitol Hill, commenting: “Oh man, were you wearing your company jacket during the riot?” In another screenshot from Twitter, Faulkner is seen kicking a window on Capitol Hill.
In total, Troy Faulkner is charged with destruction of government property, knowingly entering or remaining in a closed building without lawful authority, and forcible entry and dangerous conduct on the Capitol.
