Twitter has suspended the account of My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell for spreading misinformation ( mainly about Donald Trump and the election).
According to a spokesperson for the social networking platform, this is a permanent suspension of the account, as Mike Lindell has repeatedly violated the company 's policy . It was initially unclear which tweets triggered the suspension, but they appear to be related to the policy implemented after the attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters. Since then, Twitter has blocked posts that mislead people about political processes, including false claims about election results.
The CEO of My Pillow has repeatedly claimed that the election results were a fraud and that should be re-elected Donald Trump. These claims recently led to a lawsuit against him and the resignation of a member of his company's board of directors. Several companies have also distanced themselves from the My Pillow brand.
However, Mike Lindell remains a staunch Trump ally, continuing to argue that the election was a fraud, even in the wake of the Capitolthat left five people dead and many injured.
In recent interviews, the My Pillow CEO says his goal now is to uncover evidence of “all the fraud” he says has surfaced in recent weeks. His main target is Dominion Voting Systems, a manufacturer of voting machines.
Dominion lawyers have already taken legal action against other Trump allies. The company also filed a lawsuit against attorney Sidney Powell and sent a letter to Lindell last month accusing him of engaging in a “massive and coordinated disinformation campaign to defame Dominion.”
“There will be additional lawsuits and we continue to review documented evidence of others who orchestrated and amplified the disinformation campaign,” Dominion’s attorney said.
CISA released a statement in November saying that “ there is no evidence that any voting system deleted, lost, or altered votes or was compromised in any way . ”
Since the Capitol riot, My Pillow's business prospects have been dampened. Mike Lindell, in fact, mentioned some major retailers that have stopped working with the company: Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohl's, Wayfair, the supermarket chain HEB. Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl's said the termination of cooperation was due to low demand.
However, Mike Lindell said these boycotts have prompted customers to buy My Pillow products from other retailers or directly from the company.
Mike Lindell argues that this situation will be good for My Pillow.
“Every time I’ve been attacked, my business goes up, from 10 to 30%,” he said, although he didn’t specify what exactly he was referring to. He believes he is right in what he says and does and that other people who are right and fair will support him.
However, Lindell's political stances have also caused at least one rift on My Pillow's board of directors. As mentioned above, one board member resigned, and according to his statements, this was largely due to differing views and positions with Lindell.
The CEO of My Pillow is now among a group of Trump allies who have been banned from Twitter (along with Roger Stone and Stephen K. Bannon) in recent years. Donald Trump ’s account was also removed two days after the Capitol attack , as Twitter deemed it “ risked further incitement to violence . ” Since then, Twitter and other platforms have taken aggressive action against hate speech and election-related misinformation.
