The social networking platform MeWe saw its number of users rise significantly after the WhatsApp scandal.
Lately, there has been a shift away from major social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter.
It seems that the privacy violations, constant surveillance, political bias, and attempted manipulation by these companies has tired a large portion of users.
Naturally, these users are looking for other platforms that benefit from this removal. For example, the social network MeWe, which is said to be the future of ad-free social networking, is currently the most downloaded social networking app on the Google Play Store .
MeWe , the “anti-Facebook” platform focused on privacy, gained 2.5 million new members in just one week.
The platform was launched in 2016 and currently has 15.5 million members (50% are users outside of North America).
The company says its membership is growing rapidly because people around the world are looking for a social network that respects them as customers. It's the new mainstream social network that has all the features people love, with no ads, no targeting, and no news manipulation.
MeWe and other similar apps, such as Signal and Telegram, have gained more users in recent days due to the issue with WhatsApp. The messaging app had recently said it would share more user data with Facebook due to changes to its terms of service.
Users do n't want to share their information with platforms like Facebook. MeWe gives users complete control over their data.
The challenge for the “Anti-Facebook” platform is to take the appropriate measures to effectively serve the increased users.
