According to BleepingComputer, Netgain sent emails to customers informing them that it had fallen victim to a ransomware attack on November 24, 2020.

Customers began receiving the notification emails on December 4. They also stated that they might experience “system outages or slowdowns” due to the attack.

“At this time, our contingency plan and mitigation efforts require us to take additional preventative measures, as well as install additional security software, in response to this cyberattack. We believe you will experience system outages or slowdowns today and in the coming days as we take these actions,” Netgain explained to customers.

The next day, December 5, Netgain said it was forced to shut down its data centers to prevent the ransomware attack from spreading.

“As you know, in response to this incident, we have taken protective measures to isolate and mitigate the threat. This includes closing some of our data centers. Please note that we understand the impact this disruption has on your business. Our team is working around the clock, every day, to mitigate this threat and restore services ,” the new email sent to customers on December 5th said.

Today, a Netgain customer called Crystal Practice Management, which offers software for optometrists and other vision care professionals, sent an email to its customers to inform them of the attack on Netgain.

According to Crystal PM, thousands of Netgain servers were affected by the ransomware attack. Although the company's dedicated team is working hard, there is no information on when the systems will be fully restored.

According to Bleeping Computer, Netgain has not provided any additional information about the incident, so we do not know which ransomware gang is behind the attack.
